Something that all of us have to do is eat and preparing food can be difficult if you have any kind of arthritis with joint pain or fatigue. We put together a list of what we use to make cooking and prepping easier:
OXO Good Grips Silicone Flexible Turner: Using kitchenware with large cushioned handles can make all the difference changing the muscles you use to grip the handle and reducing the reliance on grip strength. There are plenty of options out there but we recommend OXO and their Good Grip series, they have everything from spatulas, tongs, scissors, colanders and more.
While we are talking about cushioned handles, we would be remised if we didn’t call out this
Pizza Wheel. It has a comfy grip and will require less hand movement than a knife and fork to cut even the most difficult crusts. You can even use this pizza cutter to cut a quesadilla, a sandwich, or a chicken breast. Some models even come with a blade to help protect your hand!
Something else we could all agree on was garlic is the worst. Garlic is already small and you have to chop it even smaller. A tedious task that takes fine motor skills and focus. There are a variety of ways to more easily mince garlic than a knife.
Here are a few of our favorites:
The Garlic Cube
allows you to easily slice, slice, mince and store garlic with one easy motion of pressing the lid closed. Some models even come with a
garlic peeler sleeve to make peeling easier.
If pressing isn’t your thing, you can try twisting with the Garlic Twister. The twisting motion might be better for some of your hands and you can even use both hands, one on top and one on the bottom taking the pressure off of a single hand. You can even use this for herbs, peppers, ginger and nuts.
Last but not least, there is a Garlic Rocker. Yet another way to use your hands to mince garlic. With a comfortable grip, you can easily press garlic without hurting your hands.
Another tedious kitchen task required for many of our favorite meals is grating. Grating ginger or cheese is the last thing you want to think about when making your favorite stir fry or casserole.
If you like the twisting motion and you like ginger you will also like the Rotating Ginger Grater. This grater even has a built-in cleaning arm to keep the blades clear.
This next grater is a little more versatile allowing you to grate large blocks of cheese without straining your fingers and wrist. The Rotary Cheese Grater has a suction cup base to attach right to your counter top so all you have to worry about is rotating the handle! Some models even come with interchangeable blades so you can slice, shred and grind your favorite foods.
While mobility aids are not something that might jump out as a cool gift, they can make a tremendous impact on someone’s life. Offering independence, stability and support to do more of the things we love.
There are some beautiful canes out there and some even collapse so you can store them easily for when you need it.
Here at AiArthritis we LOVE Grace & Able’s arthritis gloves. They are soft, tagless and provide light compression to help relieve pain and swelling in your hands. There a variety of colors to choose one so you can pick your favorite color or match then to outfits. Use code AiArthritis10 at check out and will receive 10% off your order!
Personalization and customization can be a great way to give a friend or loved one identity beyond the assistive device. Whether it is bedazzling, embroidery, or engraving, personalization is a great gift.
Pain and inflammation are pretty much unavoidable with an AiArthritis disease but here are some of our favorite ways to relieve the discomfort

Sitting and standing are basic parts of our day whether we are working, cleaning or watching tv. Making sure your friends or loved ones have the best setup possible can be a great gift.
Cushions: Having back and seat cushions for a desk or dining room chair can make a huge difference in someone’s day allowing them to sit longer and more comfortably. However, for those with an SI joint fusion, a firm chair with a high back might be better.
Standing desk or desk attachment:
Breaking up the day with standing can relieve shoulder and neck pain and make you more active.
One of the hardest things to adapt to with an AiArthritis disease is finding new ways to do your hobbies. Giving a friend or family member ways to do that is a great way to show you care.
Reading can be a challenge if you have trouble with handle strength. Leveraging audible and ebooks can make it easier to access their favorite books and both of these options have subscriptions you can gift. For those that still want a physical book, using a book holder than can help.
Adaptive handles for things like crochet hooks or large piece puzzles are a couple of other ideas for hobby gifts.

Merchandise - We have plenty of merchandise for everyone!
The best gift of all is community, so if you can’t find the right gift, sharing your time, offering to do an errand or having coffee might be just the thing they need.
Happy Holidays!
